The Dancer

Some of my favourite models are dancers or trained in dance for many years. What makes a dancer such a great model?

I recently shot with Anne Vinka Laurich one of my long term favourite models when she was recently visiting Australia from her work in the USA and Europe dancing.

I beleive there are a number of elements that give dancers an advantage in modelling.

1. Dancers learn how to shape their bodies to look beautiful to the auidience. Finding attractive lines, beautiful curves and lines are skills that fashion and beauty models must learn. The use of soft hands and gentle bent joints, make the image balanced and beautiful.

2. Dancers learn to portray emotion. Actresses are often models not only because they are good looking, but because they can bring emotion to the images they are creating. Dancers also have this skill being able to play a role on stage and give emotion to the dance. If the model can create expression and emption and connect with the auideince, the power of the image improves- good to great.

3. Confidence and relaxation. This cannot be understated. The more relaxed a model can be and confident in what she does, the better the images we can create. The experience of performing publically is an asset to any model.

Another model with a dance background I love to shoot is Jamie Lee Andrews. Even when shooting beauty it is the confidence and beautiful lines that helps create the right image.

Theses images of Jamie Lee are taken by Sarah Elizabeth Photographer.

I also love to shoot dance inspired shoot such as these images of Anne Vinka Laurich.

So dancers, if you have not considered modelling give it a try! Models, relax and use those dance lessons your parents paid for to good use.
