Golden Tears- Klimpt inspired shoot

Gaustav Klimpt 1862-1918 Austrian Symbolist painter known best for his portraits of women and his gold leaf style most influenced by Japanese painting.

Klimpt was an inspiration for me to create an image using his use of gold as an element together with geometric patterns in the background.

I decided to create an image using golden tears running down the models face and to create a Klimpt inspired background.

I added cardboard pieces using hot glue to create the geometric patterns and textures of Klimpt. Using gold silver and black paint I created a background that could be rotated to give different elements for the background image.

I selected a model and makeup artist to help me realise this image. Siminee form Honey and Rose Makeup Artistry was fantastic in working with me to design a look with a focus on beauty of the female face and add the sparkle of golden tears. Red lips made the face pop and provided contrast to the gold.

Model Krysten Kaye with her classic beauty and dark hair was a perfect model for the concept. We added some gold leaf elements to link the imagery.

Shooting with a 50mm lens the subject became the focus point and the background provided depth to the image.

With a planned image like this, I set about working with the model to create different emotions using angle, mouth and eye expression to change the feeling and mood of the image. Krysten did an amazing job in reflecting this.

As part of the series I also shoot a number of images using gold leave surrounding the model to create a different look and feel. These leaves were dried in a microwave oven and spray painted gold!

I hope you enjoyed this series and further appreciate the Golden Tears series.
